Genetic Counselor
Shira Plonka is a certified genetic counselor specializing in preconception, prenatal and cancer genetic counseling. Shira is committed to educating her patients about the importance of genetic screening and diagnostic testing, while providing a supportive and non-directive environment.
Shira earned a master of science degree in human genetics from Sarah Lawrence College and is a member of the National Society of Genetic Counselors (NSGC), American College of Medical Genetics (ACMG), and the International Society of Prenatal Diagnosis (ISPD). She has also interned at many of New York City’s top hospitals, acquiring a broad exposure to many disciplines and sub-specialties. Prior to earning her master’s, Shira received an honors degree in psychology and social work from University of Waterloo in Canada.
